Ramadan Foods Distribution

The atmosphere in the first 10 days of Ramadan 1445 AH in Bauchi state was characterized by conscious efforts and commitments by individuals and organizations in the distribution of various food items to cushion the effect of high cost of foods  and lessen the burden of house-holds and Ramadan family upkeep and  responsibilities.

Such food palliatives were distributed to households, Islamic Centres, Mosques, Tafsir Centres, health facility centres, as well as at the levels of women groups, youth groups, political party affiliations and other network groups across the length and breath of state.

In the Bauchi metropolis, for instance, Jam’iyatul Birri, an Islamic organization known for its proactive charity and philanthropic activities over the years donated Ramadan food itmes to over 300 orphans and the less-privileged members in the society, as part of its Ramadan reach out in noble deeds. The distribution was coordinated by the State Ameerah of the Organization, Hajiya A’isha Bint Musa Awak.

On a very much wider scale, the Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial Zone, Sen. Shehu Buba Umar launched his grand Ramadan palliative distribution of 16 trailer loads of assorted food items to cover beneficiaries in the 7 Local Government Areas in the zone. This is in addition to pockets of distributions carried out in various locations throughout the state, in order to make the maximum impact in reaching out to the needy, vulnerable and party loyalists to reap the dividends of Ramadan blessings.

In Toro Local Government Area, Hon. Isma’il Dabo Haruna, representing Toro Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, distributed food items worth millions of Naira to significant individuals in his constituency as Ramadan palliatives.

In the second phase of the distribution done this Ramadan, the entire federal constituency was clustered into Traditional, Religious, Women, Youth, Orphans and Vulnerable and Political groupings to enable for easy and fair distribution exercise.

And from the camp of Air-Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar (Rtd), who contested the Gubernatorial seat under the APC in the 2023 elections, reports filtered that this Ramadan on daily basis foods, fruits and drinks are prepared and packaged on daily basis for onward distribution at health facility centres and other designated points for Ramadan breakfast.

However, as the Ramadan enters its second 10-day period, His Excellency, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (Kauran Bauchi), the Executive Governor, Bauchi state, launches a mega distribution of foods items and other necessities as Ramadan palliatives to cover the entire state, through the administration at the local councils.

Launching the distribution with 110, 000 bags of food items at the Sir, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa stadium in Bauchi, which is a collaboration between the state and federal government of Nigeria, the Governor maintains that the programme targets beneficiaries across all the 323 wards in the state as Ramadan palliative to cushion the effects of economic hardship in the society and further alleviate sufferings being experienced.

At the occasion, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed says “I am pleased to inform you that the Bauchi State Government has allocated more than 2 billion naira towards the purchase of grains and has received substantial contribution from the National Emergency Management Agency, North East Development Commission and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to ensure citizens have access to essential food items during this period.”

The huge amount of money was channeled in procuring the food items that include among others, maize, rice, millets and sugar, and to achieve judicious distribution a high-powered committee was set up under Dr. Aminu Hassan Gamawa, Chief of Staff, Government House, Bauchi.
