Civils Servants: The Benefits of Early Retirement Plans

Civil servants in Gombe state have been reminded on the benefits and importance of adopting retirement plans while still in the service, so as to reap the dividends of their meticulous and startegic planning after exiting for life in retirement after service.

Professor Muhmmad Usman Malumfashi of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi gave the reminder while delivering a paper on ‘Understanding Retirement Plans’ at a three-day workshop organized for civils servants from Gombe state, held at Chartwell Hotel Conference Hall, Bauchi.

Professor Malumfashi informed the participants that retirement falls into four categories of mandatory, voluntary, medical and compulsory retirements under civil service regulations, and for any worker to retire under any of these categories, certain proceedures and gulidelines are strictly followed under civil service rules and regulations in any state of the federation.

Another resource person at the workshop, Dr. Umar Abdu Damina, woho presented a paper on ‘Health and Wellness in Retirement’, urges all retirees to consider regular exercises, engagement in some physical activities and periodical medical check-ups as important in maintaning a balanced and healthy life after retirement from active civil and public service.

Some other presentations focus on variety of topics such as Budgeting and Planning, by Professor Umar Abdulhamid, Investing Strategies for Retirement, by Dr. Zainab Aliyu, Maintaining Work-life Balance in Retirement, by Dr. A’isha M. Chadi, and Transitioning to Retirement: Emotional and Life-Style Considerations, by Dr. Saleh Garba.

In a vote of thanks at the closing session of the workshop, the Coordinator of the event, Engr. Imrana Yahya Waziri, representing the organizers, Prime Tech Solutions Industries, extends appreciation to partners, as well as participants who demostrated keen interest and readiness to learn and embrace technical and professional advice and solutions that will guide them for a successful retirement from service.

Prime Tech Solutions Industries, in collaboration with Gombe state government organized the workshop for civil servants, and express the hope that in future, the Bauchi state government will partner with them for great number of participants from the state.
